Six practical tips on finding the right lawyer and save a lot of money and energy.

Hiring a lawyer is crucial, be it in personal or business matters. Especially for start-ups, there might come a time when they face a legal challenge or even a court case. Often, the future of the company relies on the choice of an excellent lawyer who will fight for you with experience and heart. But how to find one? Most rely on personal recommendations, which might be a good hint. But because a lawyer helped a friend in a specific case doesn’t mean she or he will be the best pick for yours.

There are around 1.35 million lawyers in the US alone, with the lawyer’s population being 15% higher than 10 years ago. In Germany, there are around 164k lawyers. So how to pick the right one? Obviously, that had already been a problem in the past with much fewer lawyers. Benjamin Franklin once said:

“God works wonders now and then: Behold! A lawyer and an honest man!”

With 13 years of experience as a lawyer and now becoming a partner with a BIG4-Company, I know a little about my profession. While I don’t want to judge on my own skills, I think I can line out what makes a good lawyer.
