Albert Einstein had a great influence on the scientific development of the 20th century. His ideas in physics, mathematics, and philosophy continue to shape our understanding of our context. So, it’s only logical to ponder what he would think of our current AI advancements, such as ChatGPT and generative AI.

ChatGPT

OpenAI, co-founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman, created ChatGPT. It’s a type of AI that focuses on natural language processing (NLP), able to generate text in response to a user prompt.

Generative AI is a form of AI that builds upon this technology, taking user input to generate images and tunes. Both have been used to produce art, stories, and other highly praised creations.

And Einstein?

Given Einstein’s perspective on scientific advances, he would have likely felt ambivalent about these new forms of AI.

On one hand, he was an advocate for technological development and its ability to benefit mankind. He welcomed contemporary technologies such as radio and telephone, and even went so far as to experiment with the light bulb. Thus, it is possible for him to have seen the benefits of ChatGPT and generative AI, like creating art and narratives that could influence people.
